Simple causal relationship tells of the varied effects to society when parents spend more time with their children. Again, the report by Gerard Clark from New Zealand puts into words some of these effects. He pointed out how secure attachment formed in the early months, between parent and child, is a â€Å"predictor of resilience in later life†. He also pointed to how many adolescent issues like crime, drug abuse, and mental health have their roots in early childhood. In an article for The Washington Post, author Jane Waldfogel pointed us to a study in Norway linking the reduction in high school dropout rate to the country’s generous parental leave statute. This lower dropout rate, they claimed, is because of parental involvement in the early months of the child’s life, a very crucial stage when fathers connect with their children and form the foundations of future relationship; when mothers get to provide the nourishment that their baby needs through breastfeeding and the emotional connection this practice forms. Again, a properly designed parental leave can encourage mothers to nurse their babies, a practice that apparently not only helps make healthy babies now but also well-rounded adults later (n. pag.). Perhaps another reason more involved parents discourage children from dropping out of school is the amount of support and guidance they are able to relay to their children.
